Potter Claudia Cartee, who lives and works near Seminary, Mississippi, is a professional studio clay artist. She and Troy Cartee (Husband/Manager/Grunt) have been creating place settings, raku and stoneware sculptures, and functional pieces for over 4 decades.
Claudia’s pottery is entirely handmade, both wheel-thrown and hand built. She uses no molds or other commercial techniques, and her pottery is food, oven, and dishwasher safe. The glazes used are original and unique.
Claudia’s work evolves constantly as she explores new ways of self-expression through form, and the surface qualities of color and texture.
Claudia is a fellow member of the Craftsman’s Guild of Mississippi, has shown her work nationally in gallery and museum exhibits, and has received numerous awards at regional art festivals. Also, Claudia has been honored by being chosen for the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts in 2016.
